Samsung demos quad-core Exynos processors

via Samsung demos quad-core Exynos processors, we drool | Android and Me.

So Samsung demos 4 new Exynos Variants: ARM Cortex-A9 based dual and quad core (Exynos 4212 and 4412), and ARM Cortex-A15 based dual and quad core (Exynos 5250 and 5450.)

  • Exynos 4212: 32 nm, 1.2-1.5 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU, ARM Mali-400 GPU
  • Exynos 4412: 32 nm, 1.5-1.8 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU, ARM Mali-400 GPU
  • Exynos 5250: 32 nm, 2.0 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A15 CPU, ARM Mali-T604 GPU
  • Exynos 5450: 32/28 nm, 2.0 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 CPU, ARM Mali-T658 GPU

So the BIG QUESTIONS:

a) Is the SGS 3 going to have a dual-core or a quad-core?

b) Is the SGS 3 going to have an A9 or A15 based CPU?

Taylor Wimberly writes:

“Hopefully we will learn more about Samsung’s roadmap at Mobile World Congress next week. I know everyone is all excited about quad-core, but I’m hoping we see the dual-core Exynos 5250 inside the next Galaxy S III and Galaxy Tab 11.6.”

I’m going to say NO CHANCE!  While I would also much prefer to see the more advanced architecture of an A15 based processor in the next Samsung Superphone, I think their Marketing department dictates that an SGS 3 comes with a quad-core chip.  Since the Cortex-A15 based quad-core (Exynos 5450) seems to be more than 6 months away, my guess is we will see the A9 4-core Exynos 4412 in the Samsung Galaxy S III.

I hope I’m wrong but I would be shocked if I was!
